Ready to settle tough color design calls with the flip of a coin? Writer and design consultant Sara Ruffin Costello has found that decorators are creating “pale rooms, sucked free of distracting reds, blues, and yellows” and embracing a palette of black and white. Is it a trend, movement, or moment? In her article for The Wall Street Journal Online, “The Case Against Color: How pale décor can reveal your true self,” she shares her observations and some recent comments and books by noted designers.

Back with the how-to for the offices new custom bulletin boards. You might remember the inspiration from this post and how I was really wanting to incorporate a colorful fabric into the otherwise neutral space (especially with the tan grasscloth wall, natural wood bookshelf and desk, and brown & white office organizing supplies).
My solution was a teal Thomas Paul fabric in a fun print!

That image was before the boards were covered with inspirational images, photos of the family and other general mementos (such as invites, birth announcements, etc) that in general make me smile.

As we all know, a bed is generally the focal point of a bedroom, so why not think outside the box when it choosing one? As they say, one person’s trash is another’s treasure, and it’s amazing how the most unexpected items can make for a brilliant backdrop for your bed. Below are some rustic looks that have been achieved through upcycling: converting something old or otherwise overlooked into something new and wonderful!
I love how this antique mirror, which could have previously been over a chest of drawers or large vanity, is now an exquisite headboard and eye-catching focal point.
