One of my favorite homes from October’s issue of 25 Beautiful Homes was this colorful Victorian in York photographed by Jeremy Phillips. That hand-glazed tile in the kitchen is incredible, it really swings the bland scale way over in the other direction. And the guest bedroom…so much to love there. You already know how I live for canopy beds, but throw in some bold turquoise wallpaper and I’m a total goner. I’m loving the fabric on the chair, pillows and valance too.

This elegant and sophisticated bench by Arktura works just as well as a low table. Called the Hive, its algorithmically-generated pattern is cut out of high recycled content steel and finished with zero-VOC powder coat paint. It’s available in black, orange, sea green and white and was even produced in a wind and solar-powered facility.

Shipping crates live nomadic lives as they travel around the world to transport our goods, food and furniture. However, the Italian designer Marcantonio Raimondi Malerba has given one of these crates a more permanent home by turning it into a unique table fit for display. Export is a sideboard that reuses this common shipping item and gives it a second lease on life, with the simple addition of some elegant legs.
