Crate & Barrel’s sister store, CB2, finally opened its doors around the corner from our office in Toronto. I visited over the weekend, and thought I would share the items that caught my eye:

This rocking chair would add just the right amount of colour to a grey or white living room. Curtis Clover Rocker, $349.

They had a few of these fun mirrors hung vertically as one long mirror — perfect for an entryway. <

What’s in a word?
Take the term, “bespoke,” (more commonly used in the UK than in the US) and substitute it with the phrase, “made-to-measure.”
In 2008, a complaint was filed in the UK with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) against Sartoriani, a shop that advertised their suits as “bespoke,” a term previously used by Savile Row tailors for high-quality handmade clothing. According to David Sapsted of The National:
A member of the public complained to the advertising board, saying that bespoke indicated that suits were made from start to finish by hand, while the Sartoriani suits were cut by machine abroad and then adjusted by hand in the United Kingdom. The latter, he claimed, were merely made-to-measure, not bespoke.
The ASA rejected the complaint.
In their ruling, the ASA explained that while both “bespoke” and “made-to-measure” were “made-to-order” and thus distinct from retail suits, and while “customers would expect bespoke suits to be tailored to their measurements and specifications,” the majority “would not expect that suit to be fully handmade with the pattern cut from scratch. We concluded that the word ‘bespoke’ to describe the advertised suits was unlikely to mislead.”
Furthermore, the ASA added, the discrepancy in price between Sartoriani suits and Savile Row suits would also make it unlikely that the two could be confused.
The ruling “infuriated the Savile Row tailors, who have increasingly complained that they are under threat in an era of cheap imports and off-the-peg suits.” A spokesman for the Savile Row Bespoke Association commented:
“A bespoke suit is cut by an individual and made by highly skilled individual craftsmen. The pattern is made specifically for the custom

Finding great calendars can sometimes be a challenge! So many people resort to the cute little cuddly cat or puppy calendars you find at the local store. While those calendars may be cute, they lack sophistication, and lets face it… style!
When I was younger, and when I say that I mean, before I had kids, I carried a beautiful Franklin Covey planner. It was pink leather, and I had a messenger bag to match. In my previous life I was the marketing director for a travel company. I had meetings and weekly conference calls, I was, important. When I had kids I found it difficult to justify my beautiful Frankly Covey planner to schedule play dates and carpools!

A-Frame Houses
December 15, 2011 Kai Ethier
Did you ever watch the 1997 movie The Sweet Hereafter, directed by Atom Egoyan? I liked it but also found it rather depressing (if you haven’t seen it, the plot revolves around a school bus crash). To be honest, I cannot recall many of the details of the film but the one thing that stands out in my mind is the snow covered A-frame house pictured below.

Since this encounter with an A-frame house, it’s kind of been my dream to live in one. I
